Makeup and cosmetics are must-haves for every woman to always stay good-looking and presentable. However, most makeup products contain toxic chemicals that result in adverse effects on a woman’s overall health. Commercial makeup products may make a woman beautiful on the outside, but it may also silently disrupt her health, specifically her hormones.
What better way to stay beautiful without the toxic chemicals is to make a do-it-yourself (DIY) all natural beauty formula! Here are all natural DIY makeup recipes for your basic makeup needs:
Natural Loose Powder Foundation
Base: 2 tbsp. arrowroot powder or cornstarch
Color: Ginger powder (for yellow-pigmented skin)
Wheat grass powder (for red-pigmented skin)
Cocoa or nutmeg (for medium brown skin)
The arrowroot powder suits all skin types and gives your do a flawless look while the cocoa powder helps even out pale skin. In a small ceramic bowl, pour in 2 tablespoons of arrowroot or cornstarch. Start by gradually mixing in the other powders until you get the perfect mix depending on your skin type.
Test your powder concoction by rubbing little amounts on the back of your hand. After you get the right shade, place in a clean jar and seal. Use it like how you would use other loose powder foundation.
Hibiscus Blush Powder
Base: 1 tsp. arrowroot powder
Color: 1 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. hibiscus powder
(can be substituted with beetroot powder)
Hibiscus powder comes from crushed petals of Hibiscus sabdariffa. It can be enjoyed as tea, used as hair conditioner, and can be used as added ingredient to makeup products. It contains a reddish tint that works best for an all-natural blush powder.
Start with 1 teaspoon of arrowroot powder as your blush powder’s base. Slowly sift in the cocoa and hibiscus powder until you reach the right shade that best suits you. The amounts of the powders vary per skin color and preference. After getting your desired shade, store in a small jar or old blush container.
Mixed Berries Lip Stain
Ingredients: 3 blackberries (for bright color)
3 raspberries (for a feminine shade)
3 pomegranate seeds (for a vibrant red shade)
1/2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
Raspberries and blackberries both offer a Snow White luscious lip shade that works best for lip coloring and staining products. Likewise, these berries—like the pomegranate, an anti-aging food—also contain powerful antioxidants that get directly absorbed into the skin.
In a small non-metal bowl, mash the two kinds of berries and add the squeezed pomegranate seeds. Add the extra virgin olive oil and mix thoroughly. Drain the liquid mixture and store in a small jar. To apply on your lips, use either your fingers, a lip brush, or a Q-tip.
All-Natural Eye shadow
Base: 1/2 tsp. arrowroot powder
Color: Cocoa powder (for a brown shade)
Beet powder (for a pink shade)
Nutmeg (for a golden brown shade)
Activated charcoal (for a black or gray shade)
Spirulina (for a green shade)
Most commercially produced eye makeups contain high amounts of harmful chemical additives. Using natural and organic products on the eyes instead can reduce inflammations and skin irritations in the eyelids.
The arrowroot powder will serve as your eye shadow base. Slowly mix in the other powders on the base depending on your eye shadow color preference. If your mixture gets dark, add more arrowroot powder to lighten it out. Once you achieve the right mix of your eye shadow colors, keep them in small jars or containers. To prevent your eye shadow from coming off, you can add a bit of Shea butter.
Remember that anything you apply on your skin today will be absorbed into your body. With the toxic chemicals used in commercial makeup products today, it’s better to go for safe and all-natural makeup with ingredients you can also eat.
